In the motion picture "National Treasure," Nicolas Cage's character recites the following quote from the Declaration of Independence, "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security." He goes on to say that people no longer talk in that way, with that spirit and passion. The character summarizes this statement as saying that when there is something wrong, those that have the ability to take action should take action. He means that it is important that the colonists rise up and stand against the abuses of King George III. This character premised the quote by saying that of all the words ever written about freedom, this quote lies at the heart of all the others. One would believe that he sees this as the most important line in the Declaration of Independence.
